Situated off the southern Peloponnese coast in the Laconian county, aprox. 300 km distance from Athens, via Corinth, Tripoli, Sparta, Skala, Vlachioti, Molai and finally, Monemvasia itself. The rocky islet of Monemvasia makes a dramatic entrance to its visitors. A man made pontoon unites the new township of Monemvasia with the ancient citadel, enshrined within the unique byzantine castle walls.
The medieval atmosphere, lends itself to leisurely meandering walks through the labyrinthian alleyways, that take each visitor on a journey through time whilst, reliving ancient lore and legend.
Free public parking is situated just outside the castle entry gate. There is also a public shuttle bus that travels frequently between the new and old township.
